Playful Penguins
(19 to 23 months)
Our older toddler program helps prepare children for their journey into the world of preschool. Our teachers focus on helping the kids use all five senses and build emerging problem-solving and independence skills. Children begin to interact with one another more fully and continue to learn through songs and repetition.
Students in this class follow a Maryland State Department of Education approved program (Healthy Beginnings) along with the Fun Steps curriculum. Fun Steps uses thematic units that combine all five disciplines (language development, math, science, art and social studies) into single activities. Theme examples include Pets and Vets, Circle Day, and Our Library. The daily schedule includes three meal times, two outdoor times and and abundance of play and learning through distinct learning centers, music and movement, and open-ended art activities.
Upon advancement into our two year old program, children will typically be able to play and interact with other kids, begin to use an array of words to communicate thoughts and feelings, identify more than two body parts, and point to familiar objects upon request.
